The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced new procedures that will allow the agency to trace contaminated ground beef back to its source more quickly, remove it from commerce, and find the root cause of the incident to prevent it from recurring.


Children in the U.S. ate 67% more whole fruit from 2003-2010, but the amount of vegetables they ate remained unchanged, according to the latest Vital Signs report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.


In August 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a final rule that defined the characteristics a food must contain if it is labeled "gluten-free," "without gluten," "free of gluten," or "no gluten". Manufacturers had one year to bring their labels into compliance. As of August 5, 2014, any food product bearing a gluten-free claim labeled on or after this date must meet the rule’s requirements.
