USDA's REE mission is dedicated to the creation of a safe, sustainable, competitive U.S. food and fiber system and strong, healthy communities, families, and youth through integrated research, analysis and education. USDA's REE mission area is composed of the Office of the Chief Scientist, which fosters collaboration and coordination among all science agencies at USDA-including the following four agencies:

Agricultural Research Service (ARS)

ARS is USDA's chief scientific in-house research agency, finding solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table.

Economic Research Service (ERS)

The mission of USDA's Economic Research Service is to anticipate trends and emerging issues in agriculture, food, the environment, and rural America and to conduct high-quality, objective economic research to inform and enhance public and private decision making.

National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)

NASS conducts hundreds of surveys every year and prepares reports covering virtually every aspect of U.S. agriculture. Production and supplies of food and fiber, prices paid and received by farmers, farm labor and wages, farm finances, chemical use, and changes in the demographics of U.S. producers are only a few examples.
