With all the preparation that goes into a Thanksgiving feast, many hosts could use an extra assistant to make sure everything goes as planned. This Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is offering help through the “Ask Karen” food safety app and the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline (1-888-MPHotline).
Even though millions of Americans pop a vitamin, mineral or multivitamin supplement every day, an influential government-appointed panel of experts says the jury is still out on whether they help boost health or not.
The FDA has made a preliminary determination that partially hydrogenated oils, the primary dietary source of artificial trans fat in processed foods, are not “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) for use in food. During the 60-day public comment period that began on November 8th, 2013 and ends on January 7, 2014, the FDA is seeking information on a number of related issues.
